AND / OR Logic
Combine multiple filters using AND or OR logic to build precise targeting rules:
AND logic: A contact must match every rule (e.g., Tag is "VIP" AND State is "New York").
OR logic: A contact matches if any rule is true (e.g., Total Invested > $50,000 OR Tag is "Whale").
You can mix AND and OR within the same segment using grouped rule blocks. Click + Add Group to create a new logical block.
Example: High-Value NYC Investors
Group 1 (AND):
- Location > State = "New York"
- Investment Amount > $50,000
OR
Group 2 (AND):
- Tag contains "Family Office"
- Pipeline Stage = "Active Investor"
This segment catches all large New York investors plus all active family offices regardless of location.
Static vs. Dynamic Segments
Dynamic (Filter-based): Automatically updates when contacts change. If a new contact meets the criteria, they are added instantly. If a contact no longer qualifies (e.g., their pipeline stage changes), they are removed.
Static (Manual): You manually select which contacts belong. Ideal for one-off lists like "Conference Attendees" or "2024 LP Meeting Invitees" where membership should not change automatically.
Note
Dynamic segments re-evaluate on every contact update and on each use in a campaign or automation. There is no scheduled refresh delay.
Automation Integration
Segments integrate with the automation engine so you can trigger workflows based on segment membership changes.
Common automation patterns:
New member joins segment → Send an introduction email sequence.
Contact leaves "Qualified" segment → Create a follow-up task for the relationship manager.
Contact enters "Committed" segment → Automatically generate and send a subscription agreement.
To set up an automation, navigate to Automation > + New Workflow and select a segment as the trigger condition.
